Capital Fellows Program

The Capital Fellows Programs consist of four individual fellowship programs: California Senate Fellows, Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, Executive Fellowship Program and Judicial Administration Fellowship Program. These fellowships, sponsored by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, provide opportunities for college graduates to engage in public service and prepare for a future career by working as full-time staff members in the California State Assembly, Senate, Executive Branch or within the California Court System. Fellows gain first-hand experience in governing the most diverse state in the nation and involvement in the leadership of California society. Fellows in each program work for 11 months, are considered employees of Sacramento State and receive a stipend and health benefits. They are given assignments with a significant amount of responsibility and challenge, and also are enrolled as graduate students at Sacramento State and receive 12 graduate credits from the Government Department or the Public Policy and Administration Program. The only prerequisite for the programs is a four-year college or university degree and a demonstrated interest in state government and public service. Fellows come from a wide variety of backgrounds and no previous legislative or political experience is required.
