The Bill Lane Center for the American West is on the third floor of the new  "Y2E2" Building. It is a completely "green" building and the first of the new Engineering Quad sites.

The building diagram below is explained by The Stanford Challenge:
"A cutaway of the new Y2E2 building through one of its atria shows the dynamics of the ventilation. With a frosted glass ceiling, controllable louvers and open connections at every level, the atria reduce the need for artificial lighting by flooding the building with natural light that filters into even the more private areas. The design also promotes interaction among the building's 500 occupants through embedded public meeting places and a general "hello down there!" ambience."
