American Prairie Foundation Marketing and Visitor Information

American Prairie Foundation (APF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and managing a wildlife-based prairie reserve in northeastern Montana.  APF works to acquire private land, which together with adjacent public lands already devoted to wildlife, can be managed to provide a unique natural habitat for many prairie-based animals.  The grasslands of the American Prairie Reserve are home to herds of mule deer, whitetail deer, pronghorn and American bison, as well as native vegetation and numerous historical structures from the homestead era.  APF plans to offer thoughtfully-planned, regulated access for public enjoyment of the reserve.  In addition, APF strives to be a positive economic force in the local agricultural communities of the area, which have experienced declining populations due to decreased opportunities to make a living by farming and ranching.

During summer 2007, the intern created a “self-tour” booklet for visitors to the American Prairie Reserve, which is located approximately six hours northeast of Bozeman, Montana.  This tour booklet included detailed information on the American Prairie Reserve, maps, written driving directions, sights of interest, information on accommodations and meals, etc.  Research for this tour booklet was done through phone interviews and personal contact with local area businesses and neighbors, historians, government entities, scientists working on the reserve, Native American tribes, American Prairie Foundation and World Wildlife Fund staff, supporters and advisory council.  As public awareness of APF increases, inquiries from potential visitors to the prairie reserve are expected to rise.  Thus, the tour booklet created by the intern will provide invaluable information to visitors and will relieve APF staff of the need to provide information to visitors on an individual basis.  The self-tour booklet will be available for download from American Prairie Foundation’s web site, and hard copies will be available in APF’s offices in Bozeman, Montana.
