Historical Research Internship Opportunity
Alexander, Berkey, Williams & Weathers Law Firm Alexander, Berkey, Williams & Weathers, LLP is a law firm committed exclusively to serving Native American tribes and tribal organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Attorneys at Alexander, Berkey, Williams & Weathers, LLP practice Native American law because they are determined advocates for the cultures and traditions of American Indians, because they are committed preservationists of the customs, practices and histories of tribal nations, because they are believers - professionally and personally - in the principles of tribal self-determination and self-governance and because they have the resources and experience to resolve issues and find solutions. The intern worked in the Berkeley, California office of ABWW and assisted the firm’s attorneys in a number of important Indian law cases, including ancient claims to land in the State of New York, claims to water rights in southern California and other natural resource-related cases. These cases required historical research to develop the facts to support the legal claims. In addition to research, the intern attended weekly staff meetings, and had the opportunity to interact with the partners and associates at the firm.
