Monica is a rising senior in the Urban Studies program, concentrating in Urban Society and Social Change. Her interests include public art, community development and empowerment, education, alternative transportation, and public spaces. She has volunteered with Transportation Alternatives and interned with the City Parks Foundation, both in New York City. She recently returned from China and Taiwan, where she studied and traveled during Spring Quarter 2012. It is still unclear whether or not her Chinese language skills have really improved, but she enjoyed spending time abroad and experiencing urban life in Asian. Fitting then that, at the Bill Lane Center, she is working on the City Nature study with Jon Christensen to determine how countries all over the world are dealing with the effects of rising populations and urbanization.
A native of the Philippines, with an empire state of mind, Monica spends her free time reading, writing, running, learning how to cook, and seeking sunshine.
