The Long Draw: On the Trail of an Artistic Mystery in the American West
December 28, 2011
By Geoff McGhee and Jeremy Miller

An interactive map created as a supplement to the Harper's Magazine article “The Long Draw,” which appeared in the January 2012 issue of the magazine. The hand-drawn maps are by Friedrich von Egloffstein, a forgotten cartographer and landscape artist of the American West. The first map shows the Ives expedition of 1857–8; the other reconstructs portions of the Gunnison-Beckwith expedition of 1853–4.
