Create a Field of Study
The Center does not offer a major or minor in the study of the North American West, but its faculty can advise interested students in how to build a field of study around Western topics within and outside of their major department. Independent research opportunities may also be available for qualified students. As well as undergraduates, Master’s and Ph.D. candidates in Stanford graduate programs can craft specialized paths of study to reflect their interests in the study of the North American West. Current and prospective students interested in learning more about available coursework, research, and teaching opportunities should contact us [link to westcentermail@stanford.edu]. The Center is not a degree-granting program.
For Stanford Faculty
The Center has funds for stipend support for undergraduate research assistants who can work with faculty on projects related to the North American West and Pacific Rim. For more information about previous and current research assistantship opportunities, please consult our Internship Program page.
