Katy Serafin is a post-doctoral research fellow at Stanford University. She received a M.S. and Ph.D. in Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences from Oregon State University in 2013 and 2017, respectively. Prior to graduate school, she worked at the U.S. Geological Survey’s St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center to evaluate storm-induced coastal change hazards. Her central research focus is to better understand, predict, and adapt to flooding and erosion events, now and into the future. Facets of this research include quantifying the risk of flooding the San Francisco Bay area faces due to compounding processes (e.g., tides, streamflow, waves), climate change, and shoreline adaptation strategies.
