Mary Sprague is a senior researcher at the Bill Lane Center for the American West and a research scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. She specializes in program evaluation and policy design. Her current research is focused on government grant design, regional water management, and student assessment. She has published work on varied policy topics, including public finance, social welfare, and transportation. She has also written on community-engaged learning and practicum course design.
Previously, Dr. Sprague was a senior lecturer in the Stanford Public Policy Program and directed its senior capstone program and its city manager initiative. She also worked for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, San Francisco Budget Analyst’s Office, and Public Policy Institute of California. She received her BA in public policy from Stanford University, and her Master of Public Policy and PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
