Maya is a Mutooro in diaspora, who grew up on unceded Shawnee and Osage lands in central Kentucky, and in the Buganda Kingdom, in Kampala Uganda. They are an MA candidate in Environmental Communications. Their B.A. is in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity with a concentration in Identity, Diversity, & Aesthetics. They also have a minor in Colonial History. Maya spends their free time making music, farming, and reading poetry. Their interests lie in exploring sound art as a medium for multi-layered environmental storytelling and communication.
