2024 Indicators Report: Equitable Paths to EV Charging
Sobrato Shoreway Conference Room
Redwood City, CA 94065

Transportation contributes over 40% of San Mateo County’s total greenhouse gas emissions. We can’t stop extreme heat, costly wildfires and rising sea levels without moving to clean, electric vehicle transportation. But while EV sales are soaring, San Mateo County lacks the necessary charging infrastructure and faces significant challenges in meeting charging demand, particularly for low-income families and those living in multi-family or rented housing. To ensure equitable EV charging access will require a coordinated, efficient build out of the EV charging infrastructure.
Join us for an in-depth discussion about EV Charging in San Mateo County, looking at how much charging we need, where and how we're going to get there. This in-person event will launch Sustainable San Mateo County's 28th Annual Indicators report: "Equitable Paths to EV Charging". Government officials, staff and community leaders will come together to share data, collaborate on ideas and move us closer to a county wide solution.
Panelists will include:
- Simona Vallone, program manager for SSMC’s Indicators Report, who will present key findings and highlights from the report.
- Esther Conrad, research manager at Stanford’s Bill Lane Center for the American West, who will explain the current barriers to EV charging and the policies needed to overcome these barriers.
- Terence Kyaw, services director for Redwood City Public Works, who will speak about what Redwood City and other cities are doing to expand access to publicly available chargers and where they face constraints.
- Melanie Jasper, associate program manager for Transportation Electrification at Peninsula Clean Energy, who will highlight the EV Charging programs Peninsula Clean Energy offers and the importance of collaborating with city and county governments.
