A recent gift by the Capital Group Foundation has provided the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University with a collection of more than 1,000 photographs by seven American photographic masters, including Edward Weston and Ansel Adams. Works by these legendary photographers of the American West will be displayed from September 26, 2019 to January 6, 2020 as part of the Cantor’s exhibition West x Southwest: Edward Weston and Ansel Adams.
Join Professor Bruce Cain for a private tour led by exhibition curator Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell on November 7, 2019. Mitchell, who is the Burton and Deedee McMurtry Curator and Director of the Curatorial Fellowship Program, will share an insider perspective on how she selected these iconic images for the first public exhibition from this collection. This intimate tour will serve as a preview for the Center's ArtsWest Spring 2020 event, Seeing the West, which will examine the influence and significance of Adams, Curtis, and Weston on photography of the West today.
