Clay Jenkinson as Theodore Roosevelt

The City of Palo Alto writes:

Join us for a Chautauqua interpretation of Theodore Roosevelt by renowned humanities scholar, Clay Jenkinson. Registration is recommended.

Nationally acclaimed humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson will bring Theodore Roosevelt to Palo Alto on Tuesday, May 1 during an engaging Chautauqua interpretation of the nation’s 26th president. This free event for all ages will be held at the Palo Alto Art Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. and registration is recommended to attend the performance.

Jenkinson is renowned for his first-person portrayals of historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis, John Wesley Powell, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Theodore Roosevelt. He is a cofounder of modern Chautauqua, where historical figures are brought to life and interact directly with audiences to educate, enlighten, and entertain. In this three-part Chautauqua, Jenkinson will speak in costume and character as Theodore Roosevelt, answer questions from the audience as the former president, and break character to answer questions as a scholar himself.

A former Rhodes Scholar, Jenkinson is also an author, professor, documentary film maker, and host of the radio program, The Thomas Jefferson Hour. He has performed his historical interpretations for President Clinton, Supreme Court justices, numerous public audiences and appeared on The Colbert Report, The Today Show, and CNN.

The program is made possible by the collaborative efforts of Stanford University and the Palo Alto City Library. To register for the event, please visit the library website here.
