This seminar is part of the fall 2023/2024 Wildland Fire Seminar Series, co-sponsored by the Bill Lane Center for the American West,  Precourt Institute for Energy, Stanford Sustainability Data Science, and Woods Institute for the Environment. In the series, we will hear from a spectrum of researchers, decision makers, and industry experts on some important issues and challenges related to wildland fires.  This talk will be led by Maria Santos from the University of Zurich.

The series continues Tuesday, November 7 with a talk by Georgia Scarr, undergraduate researcher at the Bill Lane Center for the American West.

Abstract

Community members, public servants, environmentalists and more are coming together across the country to reduce wildfire risk. Learn about these efforts from a wildland firefighter and undergraduate researcher at the Stanford Bill Lane Center for the American West. She will discuss the Bill Lane Center’s research into the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, a Joint Powers Authority partnership between stakeholders and 17 member agencies across Marin County. How have they been able to implement wildfire mitigation projects at scale, whilst ensuring thorough environmental compliance and community engagement?
