Moving Within/Outside the Academy: Reproducing "Ropes of Resistance" through Community-Engaged Work

Join Kanaka Maoli scholar Dr. Noelani Goodyear-Kaʻōpua as she reflects on working both within and outside the academy as a researcher who has led many community-engaged projects. This lecture will explore how academic projects can create long-lasting impacts in communities.

Some questions that will guide this workshop will be:

  • How can you create sustainable community-engaged projects that exist beyond the lifecycle of a research project?
  • How do you use your skills as a researcher in service of the communities that you are a part of outside of the academy?

This event is part of the Haas Center's 2021-22 Research as Praxis workshop series. The series is designed with Stanford graduate students in mind who are interested in learning more about and developing their skills around community-engaged scholarship and community-based research. Invited speakers include scholars, leaders and practitioners across disciplinary fields.
