Yiyuan Zhang joined a group of Department of Water Resources interns to visit Oroville Dam, the largest earthen dam in the country and the site of a near-disaster in February, when the dam's spillway gave way under heavy outflows.

Leon Szeptycki is the executive director of Water in the West, a joint project by the Center and the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. Recently, Leon spoke with the Stanford News Service about the extremes of the western climate and the importance of seeking solutions for western water issues.
On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will pass over the Pacific Northwest. The solar industry’s success in California means that the electric grid operators will have to plan for a period of time when the sky goes dark and solar generation plummets. While the generation loss is significant, it’s not the only problem.
