Dan’s research examines the relationships between coastal resources and coastal societies in the context of resource management in a changing environment. He combines natural science, social science, and citizen science in order to advance the theory and practice of coastal management through engagement with coastal resource user communities. Dan is a fifth generation Californian and has spent most of his life in, on, or under the Pacific Ocean.
