Headshot of Dee Fellow Elliott Reichardt

Elliott Reichardt is a PhD candidate in the Socio-Cultural Anthropology Department at Stanford University. His research focuses on the intersections of environmental, economic, and legal forces in reshaping social structures in Indigenous North America. Based on 15 months of ethnographic fieldwork in Northern British Columbia, Elliott is researching how the logging industry is becoming increasingly dependent on First Nations, as colonial structures evolve in response to Indigenous land rights and ecological depletion. His work sheds light on the emergence of "reconciliation capitalism," where Indigenous Nations negotiate their own empowerment through asserting sovereignty, while incorporating settler capitalisms to sustain the people, settler and Indigenous, in these increasingly Indigenous governed regions.
