Surabhi Balachander

Surabhi Balachander is a Program Coordinator at the Bill Lane Center for the American West. From 2017-18, Surabhi worked full-time to manage and assist with programs such as internships, Sophomore College, and ArtsWest. In 2019, she returned part-time to work with the Center's Rural West Initiative and other programs as needed. 

Away from the Lane Center, Surabhi is a PhD Candidate in English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, where she coordinates a Rural America Working Group and has taught courses on rural America and the environment, and Asian American literature. Her research focuses on rurality, race and ethnicity, and environment in American literature from 1920 to the present.
