General Election Poll, October 2018

The Bill Lane Center for the American West has conducted a poll of adult Californians, which sought their opinions in advance of the general election on November 6, 2018. The survey reached 2,178 respondents and explored attitudes toward the upcoming midterm election, the national and state-level political atmosphere, preferences for general election candidates, and their feelings about the contentious confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The survey was designed by Bruce Cain and Iris Hui, researchers at the Bill Lane Center for the American West. Advising the Lane Center on survey content were Hoover Institution senior fellow and Stanford political scientist David Brady and Doug Rivers, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and a professor of political science and Bill Whalen, a Hoover research fellow who studies California politics.

The online poll was conducted between October 10 and 24 by YouGov and has a margin of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
