Yosemite Museum Intern

The Yosemite Museum is responsible for preserving cultural and natural collections, as well as for making them available for education and enjoyment.  Collections consist of a variety of types of objects, touching on the disciplines of archeology, art, biology, ethnology, geology, and history.

The intern will help preserve ethnographic collections by implementing recommendations from a condition survey, such as rehousing objects, and perform basic conservation tasks.  The intern will also be able to assist in a variety of ongoing museum projects to broaden the learning experience.

 

Internship Tasks

  • Making cavity mounts for objects
  • Cleaning objects via museum vacuuming
  • Completing condition reports
  • Inventorying collections
  • Cataloging museum collections

  • Patience
  • Methodical approach
  • Interest in cultural history and ethnology

Desired Skills

Humor, good memory, problem solving, flexibility and an interest in learning about the collections.

Preferred Majors or Experience: 
Preference is for juniors and seniors, but any class could be suitable. Relevant majors include History, English, Sociology, Environmental Science, American Studies and Anthropology – anyone who has a passion for cultural resources.
