Join the Bill Lane Center and the Palo Alto City Library for a virtual author event with Jeanette Arakawa, as she discusses her autobiographical novel, The Little Exile, based on her own experience as an internee in the 1940s at the Rohwer War Relocation Center in Arkansas. Her experience helped shape her advocacy and work in the Bay Area, in particular working with Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI)

Jeanette was born in San Francisco, California to immigrants from Japan in October 1932 in the middle of the Great Depression. On Jeanette’s 10th birthday, she and her family arrived by train at a camp in the Mississippi River bottomlands at a camp called Rohwer Relocation Center for the next three years. Her story in The Little Exile, "represents my meager attempt to raise awareness to what is possible in the worst of times."

This event will be moderated by Ed Shikada, Palo Alto city manager.
