Gemma Smith

Gemma is an incoming PhD student at Stanford University's Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on water policy and economics. In particular, her research is concerned with the role of incentives - whether economic, social, moral, informational, or otherwise - that drive human adaptation to and mitigation of environmental damage. Her recent work has focused on the role of incentives in agricultural irrigation practices, the relative merits of public versus private water management in developing countries, and irrigation and water management adaptations to climate change in California.
