Hans Carstensen

Hans has been President and CEO and member of the board of directors for Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke, Virginia. Prior to that assignment he was President/CEO and a member of the boards of directors for Aviva Life Insurance Company in Boston, MA. Prior to joining Aviva, Hans was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the Weyerhaeuser financial services subsidiary, GNA Corporation.

Hans received his MBA in finance and his BA in Political Science from Stanford. 

Following graduation from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in finance, Hans became a member of the finance staff for the Weyerhaeuser Company in Federal Way, WA. While at Weyerhaeuser Hans served in international treasury, worked for the Governor of the State of Washington for two years on a leave of absence and served for five years as a lobbyist for Weyerhaeuser in Washington, DC.

Since 2015 he has been a member of the board of trustees at Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY.  Hans is currently President of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Executive Committee for the Sawtooth Society, a conservation non-profit group in Stanley, ID. He is an emeritus member and former Board Chair of the Berkshire School board of trustees in Sheffield, MA. He also served for six years on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Roanoke Valley in Roanoke, VA.
